Candle of Hope
While all Fannie Battle families pay tuition, childcare fees and subsidies account for only 50% of our operating budget.
The effects that COVID-19 has on our community highlight the already pressing need for accessible and affordable childcare. And it is through programs, like our Family Empowerment Program, that reaffirm our organization and partnerships are truly important and needed more than ever.
On March 18th, our Board of Directors determined that temporarily closing the facility and canceling our annual Yum!East fundraiser in May would be the safest, most prudent course of action. Since closure, were fortunate to continue providing our staff their normal wages; allowing us to retain our experienced and caring teachers. During this time, we were also able to waive tuition for all families.
On June 1st, we found it necessary to re-open as Davidson county moved into Phase 2. The need for childcare is more important than ever in this incredible time. Families are having to leave employment to care for their children as many childcare centers and school districts choose to remain closed. See our latest blog post for more information on the COVID childcare crisis.
Thank you for your support and dedication to make a lasting impact in our community today.
